This exquisite painting is an original oil on wood. It's a beautifully decorative representation of gallantry towards ladies from "higher circles" in the 19th century. In the scene, the man is even depicted as more minor than the lady he's escorting at the doorstep, clearly showing that this lady was a person from a highly esteemed circle at the time. A magnificent late 19th-century painting with a social touch, signed and dated 1886, is in relatively good condition considering its age and beautiful original frame. On the contrary, there is some little discoloration on the man's jacket as you can see in the photo. The red pigment in the oil paint has given up after 140 years... It's an antique painting, you know, these imperfections have to be included. The frame has minor damage to the upper right corner as you can see in the image. Here and there, some minuscule chalk flakes have been touched up with gold-colored paint, including the corner damage. It certainly doesn't detract from the beauty of the artwork as a whole, considering the age. All colors in this artwork are subjective and may vary on your monitor.
