Description

A charming vintage Belgian still-life painting depicting a simple country-style meal, created by the Belgian artist Bernard Van Laere (1917–1985).

Painted in the mid-20th century, this evocative work presents a rustic country table with a traditional copper-colored coffee or tea pot, bread, radishes, a ceramic bowl, and a decorated pitcher. In the background, a small framed rural landscape showing harvested fields adds an interesting pictorial detail and reinforces the peaceful atmosphere of rural life.

The painting was originally titled in Dutch “De Radijskens” (“The Radishes”), as indicated on the small plaque attached to the lower part of the frame.

The restrained palette, traditional subject matter and beautifully aged appearance give this work the character of an authentic mid-century European interior painting. It would make an attractive addition to a country kitchen, farmhouse interior, dining room, cottage, rustic home or collection of Belgian and European vintage art.

This is a particularly appealing piece for collectors who appreciate Belgian art, vintage still-life paintings, European country scenes and nostalgic depictions of everyday life.
