Choosing a Necklace – 19th century painting of French origin

This beautiful painting is an original oil on wood. A lady is choosing a necklace in a somewhat dark environment, while the man waits in a room next door… Given its age (mid to late-19th century), the painting is in relatively good condition. It comes in a lovely gold colored frame. Over the years, some craquelure has developed, but this does not detract from the charm exuded by the painting. The painting is based on a work by the Dutch painter Frans van Mieris the Elder (1635-1681) from the 17th century.
